Old Girls

The Royal School, Hampstead’s (formerly The Royal Soldier’s Daughters’ School)

Old Girls’ Association was formed in 1979 and was thriving with over 400 members, annual reunions at the school and a twice-yearly magazine. Sadly, it is being wound up as the four committee members who have run it from the beginning are now unable to do so.  It is hoped that the association will continue if only two or more volunteers would come forward to take it on.  Please telephone Gwynneth Shuttleworth (01342 823 401) or Florence Gould (01582 484 267) if you are interested.

Numbers attending reunions have varied from 25 to over 100, with many new friendships being formed and old pals being found.  Small groups are in touch by email and occasional meetings.  We have had members in Canada, South Africa as well as Europe.

We would be pleased to hear from any old pupils who wish to make a general enquiry or wanting to contact old friends whom we may know about.  Also, if you could write your story of your time at the school, we would love to have it as a history of the school is being planned.

Many thanks.
Florence Gould
Treasurer of the Old Girls’ Association (pupil from 1930 to 1938)

Tina Leake ( Sonya Leake and Tanya Leake, The Twins) 1981-1986

We would love to hear from any girls from our years together. To reminisce over the good times like the time we got stuck in the lift at the army museum! the after lunch experiments on the windowsills, the outings, the meals and supper, sunnyside and greenhill, sugar and sugarless tea from the urns, silence after lights out and having to go out in 3's. ( What ever happened to the 5 boys that used to hang around the gates?) The matrons... Miss Harrison , Miss Leach, Miss Rowlege and The Heads, Mrs Sibley and Mrs Griffiths.

Sonya is married with 3 boys and living in Gloucester. Tanya has a daughter and a son and living in Bristol and I, Tina, a career woman living in London.

We would love to hear from you. tinaleake@hotmail.com

Stephanie Bailey

My name was Stephanie Bailey, I was at the School from 69 to 75. I was at the School with my younger sisters Penny and Jackie Bailey, we were one of the first years to go into the new building. Not very good with names but do remember Mrs Briggs, Mrs Sibley and Ms Anderson. I have fond memories of the School and believe that it has helped me become the person that I am. I went to Parliament Hill School, and vividly remember the purple uniform! Had many great adventures, and still remember sneaking out at night!! My best friends were Julie Holloway and Sandra Cooper. Hope to visit the School soon and see if it still looks the same. Does anyone remember when the IRA was still active in London and the School receiving a bomb scare and being trooped down Hampstead High Street to the Police Station in our pyjamas!! My email is steviebeale@btinternet.com
